Mollay Campbell in July 1847 investigating the charges which I had brought against certain Chinese servants of the government of using the name of the Colonial Secretary for purposes of extortion - he had found that they were groundless and without foundation - that there was not the shadow of probability for what he termed "idle rumours" ; - and, further, that in bringing my charge I must have been actuated by other than loyal feelings for the public service, and therefore that I was not fit to be Her Majesty's servant.
